Audition for the 2027
Sun Devil Percussion Section
Welcome Percussionists! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all students who are interested in auditioning for the Sun Devil Percussion section. Please read the following material, as this information will be critical for you and your success with our audition process.

How to Audition
Three steps to join the 2027 Sun Devil Percussion Section.

Everyone auditioning starts here, whether you're auditioning in person or by video.

When: May 1–2, 2027 · 9:00am–4:00pm
Where: ASU Percussion Blockhouse
Fee: $60
All candidates must audition in person, except out-of-state applicants (see Step 3).

Upload an unlisted YouTube video and email the link to Roberto by 11:59pm, April 25, 2027. We'll contact you with next steps.
- Show yourself head to toe
- Camera level with the playing surface, no extreme angles
- A metronome must be clearly audible
- Mark time visibly, with your full foot lifting off the ground (front ensemble doesn't mark time)
- Play on an instrument, not a pad, when possible. Bass drummers: front profile
Open to everyone. Whether you're an ASU student or a member of the community, you're welcome to audition, no matter where you go to school.

Getting to the Percussion Blockhouse
- From University Dr & Rural Rd, head north on Rural Rd.
- Turn right (east) on E 6th St toward the Verde Dickey Dome.
- Take an immediate left (north) into the 59E parking lot.
- Follow the road north, then east, until it opens into a larger lot on your right.
- The Percussion Blockhouse is on the south side of that lot.
Parking: ASU lots are paid. ASU Parking will ticket unpaid vehicles.

Who Can Audition
Do I have to be an ASU student?
No. As long as you've graduated high school, you can join our program as a community member.
Do I have to audition in person?
Yes, unless you live out of state. Out-of-state applicants can send a video by 11:59pm on April 25, 2027. Piano (synth), guitar, bass, and drumset auditions are video only.
I can only make one of the two days. Should I still come?
Yes. Email Roberto at rvpaz@asu.edu so your section staff knows. The more we see you in person, the better.
Audition Day
Do I need to bring my own instrument?
No. We'll use ASU equipment, but you need to bring your own sticks and mallets. Bring your pad too.
How much does it cost?
The audition fee is $60.
When will I find out if I made it?
Member selections are announced on Sunday, May 2, from 3:00 to 3:30pm.
Is lunch provided?
No. There's a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00pm both days, so bring or buy your own.
Do I have to pay for parking?
Yes. ASU lots are paid, and ASU Parking will ticket unpaid vehicles.
